This half double crochet stitch is probably my most favorite stitch. It’s not a single, not a double, it’s what is in between and I love it. Not only is the half double crochet (probably) my favorite stitch, but it’s so easy and works up so splendidly, that you can use this stitch for lots of crochet projects that are completely different, one to another.
For learning how to half double crochet, we again turn to Mikey from The Crochet Crowd to help us all get it just right. Mikey is one of my most favorite YouTubers (for crocheting) and you’ll soon see that his style of teaching is great for anyone wanting to learn how to crochet. This particular video is part of a learning series he did several years ago – his methods are easy to follow and perfect for the beginner on up.
So. Let’s learn to half double crochet.
How to Crochet: The Famous Half Double Crochet Stitch
Here are two of my latest WIPs…
The first, Mags’ mermaid tail (another tutorial from Mikey that is super duper AWEsome), is done with a thicker yarn and larger hook.
The second is a girl baby blanket that I’m happily alternating rows with the single stitch and the half double stitch:
For whatever reason, I am thoroughly enjoying my L hook (8 mm) and am on a tear using it to create some pretty little crochet projects for Christmas prezzies. I love to spoil! 🙂
Alrighty then, I should probably leave you now, to get going on your next creation. Give the half double crochet stitch a whirl. Who knows, maybe it will become your (probably) most favorite stitch, too.
